How/where do I get the NMI number?
NMI stands for National Meter Identifier. It’s a unique number for the electricity connection at your address. You can get this from your electrical energy bill.
NMI M 6-1 Active-Energy Electricity meters for unique NMI numbers for billing purposes, please see clause 7.8.2 (C) AEMC . The NMI number comes from your energy retailer and is based around the address where the energy will be supplied.
What is the NMI number on the side of the meter?
This is the National Measurements pattern approval number. Pattern approval is where an instrument is tested against national or international standards. This determines the measurement accuracy of the instrument and whether the instrument retains this accuracy under a range of environmental and operating conditions. If the instrument complies with the pattern approval process, a certificate of approval will be issued. NMI meters are approved for billing purposes.
